Democrats Demand DNI Gabbard Halt Russia Collusion Disclosures

On July 21, 2025, Congressional Democrats, led by Rep. Jim Himes and Sen. Mark Warner, demanded that Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard cease releasing information alleging a “Russian Collusion Hoax” in the 2016 election. The pushback follows Gabbard’s July 18 declassification of a 114-page report accusing former President Barack Obama and officials like James Comey, John Brennan, and James Clapper of a “treasonous conspiracy” to fabricate Russian interference claims to undermine Donald Trump’s presidency. Democrats call the report an attempt to “rewrite history” and distract from Trump’s Epstein-related controversies.

Himes labeled Gabbard’s accusations “utter nonsense,” citing a 2017 Senate Intelligence Committee report that unanimously confirmed Russia’s election interference through social media and cyberattacks. Warner, vice chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, accused Gabbard of “weaponizing” her role to push Trump’s narrative, eroding trust in intelligence agencies. The Democrats’ outcry intensified after Gabbard claimed whistleblowers are providing new affidavits, with more disclosures expected soon. A 2025 CNN report noted the FBI is already investigating Comey and Brennan, raising stakes.

Gabbard’s supporters, including Trump, argue the documents expose a “deep state” plot, pointing to a December 2016 meeting where Obama allegedly ordered a false intelligence assessment. Critics counter that the Mueller investigation, costing $40 million, found Russian interference but no Trump campaign collusion. Legal experts say treason charges are unlikely without clear evidence of intent. As tensions rise, the debate questions whether Gabbard’s releases uncover a scandal or fuel partisan chaos.
