Crockett Claims MAGA Questions Her Blackness Over Education

WASHINGTON, D.C., August 25, 2025 — Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) sparked controversy with a social media post alleging that supporters of President Donald Trump’s MAGA movement challenge her Black identity due to her education. The claim follows remarks by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who suggested on a YouTube show that Crockett, a law school graduate, cannot relate to the “Black American struggle” because of her private school and college background. Crockett responded, “MAGA keeps challenging my blackness due to the fact that I’m educated because it’s not racist at all to presume that I can’t be black if I have also been educated.”

Crockett, who shared a racist email she received as evidence of ongoing harassment, emphasized that Blackness and education are not mutually exclusive, noting Black women are the most educated demographic in the U.S. Her fiery retort, urging critics to “keep your hoods on & stay outta my ‘hood,’” went viral, reigniting her feud with Greene, which began with a 2024 House hearing clash over Crockett’s appearance. Critics, including Texas Governor Greg Abbott, dismissed her claims as divisive, while supporters praised her for confronting racist stereotypes.

The dispute highlights broader tensions over race, identity, and political rhetoric as the 2026 midterms approach. Crockett’s outspoken style, often targeting Trump and GOP policies, has made her a polarizing figure. The debate underscores questions about who defines Black authenticity and whether education is being weaponized to undermine it.
