New York Attorney General Letitia James, the AG behind the Trump civil fraud case that ended in a massive, nearly $400 million penalty for the former president, found herself in a deeply embarrassing situation on Thursday, March 7. That came when she was speaking at the New York Fire Department promotion ceremony and the firefighters, rather than listening, let loose with a cacophony of “Trump” chants.
The incident came when AG James was speaking about the FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh. Then, the somewhat celebratory atmosphere of the event turned to a politically charged one, with numerous members of her audience letting rip with the “Trump” chants and effectively stopping AG James’ speech, even forcing her to stop and address the chants.
As can be seen in the epic footage of the event, AG James tried to keep her speech going as the growing chants and noise from them started to drown them out. Eventually, AG James tried to get the crowd to simmer down and stop chanting, snapping, “Come on, we’re in a house of God… simmer down.” That didn’t work, and the chants persisted from the fiery firemen.
The department bureaucrats were unpleased by AG James’ embarrassment. FDNY Chief of Department John Hodgens released a statement to Newsweek on the situation in which he said, “Today’s ceremony was about one thing: the accomplishments of the members being promoted. The members whose behavior distracted from that celebration were an embarrassment and not befitting of the world’s best fire department.”
Predictably, conservative accounts on X loved the incident. For example, Charlie Kirk, posting about the incident on X, said, “Letitia James brags to FDNY firefighters about swearing in “our first African American woman chaplain,” when the audience interrupts with chants of “Trump! Trump! Trump!”
Another conservative account suggested that this was far from the last time AG James would have a rough time speaking in public, saying, “AG Letitia James was just booed and heckled by New York firefighters as she tried to give a speech. They then started chanting “Trump! Trump! Trump!” and interrupted her repeatedly. Pretty sure this isn’t the last time this will happen to James.”
