BREAKING: Donald Trump lets loose a deranged old man rant as the American economy craters, pronounces that “I’m the shopkeeper and I keep the store!” about his disastrous tariffs.

If the United States is a store, it’s about to go out of business. We can already picture the Spirit Halloween banner going up over the White House…

During a press conference, a reporter asked Trump if he will be announcing any “deals” with foreign nations later this week.

“Well, I could announce all of them now. I could announce fifty to a hundred deals right now because I’m the shopkeeper and I keep the store!” replied Trump.

Of course, if there really were deals to announce Trump would do so. His popularity is plummeting and he needs a quick win. Instead, he’s steering us even deeper into economic crisis.

“You know, I know what countries are looking for and I know what we’re looking for and I can just set those terms and they can go shopping or they don’t have to go shopping, because everybody wants to shop here,” Trump went on.

“This is like a beautiful store. This is like one of Bernard Arnault’s or maybe I should say Alex even more importantly. Young, the future,” said Trump, pointing to the billionaire owner of LVMH. “But Bernard it’s an honor to have you, we’re having a meeting after this, uh, but he has the greatest stores in the world and they want to shop.”

“Our country is the greatest store in the world of that kind and everybody wants a piece of it and they took advantage of us for years because we allowed presidents… Our presidents allowed it to happen. You know I don’t blame China,” Trump added.

It should be readily apparent to anyone with even the most rudimentary understanding of politics and economics, but the United States is not a store. We rely on the flow of trade with our allies to grow our GDP and wealth. When that flow is cut off — like it has been by the Trump tariffs — companies are forced to lay off workers, consumer prices skyrocket, and the stock market crashes.

As usual, this is just meaningless bluster from Trump meant to distract from his historic failure of an administration. Last week he claimed that he had already hammered out “200 deals” but has yet to produce evidence of a single one.

The truth is that there are no deals, there is no plan, and there is no reason to support this disgrace of a president.
