AG Bondi, FBI’s Patel Announce Arrest of Top MS-13 Leader

Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel held an emergency press conference on March 27, 2025, to announce the arrest of a top MS-13 leader in Virginia. The suspect, an undocumented immigrant from El Salvador and one of the gang’s top three national figures, was apprehended in a predawn raid. Bondi, flanked by Deputy AG Todd Blanche and DOJ official Emil Bove, declared, “He’s in custody, and he won’t be in our country much longer.” The operation, watched from a tactical center, was hailed as a major blow to the notorious gang, aligning with President Trump’s directive to prioritize public safety.

Bondi praised the FBI’s “clean, safe operation,” crediting the task force of federal, state, and local law enforcement. Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, present at the conference, lauded the collaboration, noting a 287G agreement that deputized state police for immigration enforcement within 20 hours of Trump’s inauguration. Patel emphasized the task force’s nationwide mission, stating, “If you commit violent crimes, you’ll meet the same fate.” The arrest follows Trump’s broader crackdown, including federal control of D.C.’s police and National Guard deployments in Texas.

Critics, including Representative Jamie Raskin, argue such actions risk overreach and civil liberties violations. The operation’s success, however, bolsters Trump’s narrative of restoring safety, with Bondi underscoring, “We didn’t need new laws, just a new president.” As MS-13’s East Coast operations face disruption, the arrest signals an aggressive new phase in federal law enforcement.
